Product: Anti-Human C-Peptide Antibody
Catalogue No.: 164513
Other Names: Connecting peptide, or C-peptide, C Peptide, Cpeptide
Description: After removal of the precursor signal peptide, proinsulin is post-translationally
cleaved into three peptides: the B chain and A chain peptides, which are covalently linked via two disulfide bonds to form insulin, and C-peptide. The C-peptide serves as a linker between the A- and the B- chains of insulin and facilitates the efficient assembly, folding, and processing of insulin in the endoplasmic reticulum. C-peptide has been found to be a bioactive peptide in its own right, with effects on microvascular blood flow and tissue health. It has been shown to bind to the surface of a number of cell types such as neuronal, endothelial, fibroblast and renal tubular, at nanomolar concentrations to a receptor that is likely G-protein-coupled.
