Product: Anti Cat IgM Monoclonal Antibody
Catalog No.: 165253
Description: Immunoglobulin M is the largest antibody isotype and the first to be secreted against an initial exposure to antigen. IgM is predominantly produced in the spleen. Formed from covalently linking 5 immunoglobulins together, the approximate molecular weight of IgM is 900kDa and possesses 10 binding sites. Due to this large size, IgM is typically isolated to the serum. Due to its polymeric nature, IgM possesses high avidity, and is particularly effective at complement activation. By itself, IgM is an ineffective opsonin; however, it contributes greatly to opsonization by activating complement and causing C3b to bind to the antigen.
