Alternate Names: IgG, Immunoglobulin-G
Description: Native alpaca single domain immunoglobulin purified from sera. Camelids are large animals with slender necks and long legs, and are strictly herbivorous. The members of the family Camelidae includes camels, Llamas, and alpacas. They have a unique type of antibodies, lacking the light chain, in addition to the normal antibodies found in other mammals. These so-called heavy chain antibodies (VHH) are being used to develop single domain antibodies. VHHs have many advantages for biotechnological applications, due to single domain nature. These include stability and function at high temperatures, and recognize antigenic sites that are normally not recognized by conventional antibodies such as enzyme active sites. The antigen binding domains are small, about 12–13 kDa.
